The Adamawa State COVID19 Containment Committee led by the Secretary to the State Government, Mal. Bashiru Ahmad, on Friday 17th April 2020, inspected the border towns of Numan and, Lafiya.
The inspection was warranted after a tip-off was given regarding massive droves of vehicles coming from Lagos and Kano states. The Containment Committee accompanied by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Deputy Director of the Department for Security Services (DSS) and other law enforcement agents arrived on time to stop the convoy of travelers from entering the state.
The Travelers were from Lagos, Abuja, Kano, Taraba and Gombe states. They have since been taken to the quarantine site at Bille for the mandatory 14-day isolation period, during which tests for the covid19 virus will be conducted.
While addressing the Press, Mal. Bashiru Ahmad said the intervention was timely but more attention must be given to the border towns inorder to prevent illegal entries.
Also speaking, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Yahaya Nguroje said that stringent measures have been put in place towards ensuring air-tight security at the borders. He remarked that the Police officers at the border posts are trained to handle such cases of illegal entries professionally.
The State government had ordered all of its borders to remain closed and also stationed medical personnel to screen designated persons that are allowed into the state.
Legal entries into the state are now only limited to trucks conveying foodstuffs with an official permit.
