Re: MY ADAMAWA PROJECTION by Mohammed Mayas (Assistant Publicity Secretary APC Adamawa State)

By George Kushi

Well, well, well. The verbosity of this write up clearly indicates that the author is incensed with this regime. But there is no cause for alarm since visibly he was one of those sacked by the present government as one of the committee members that would outlive the then ousted government .
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who he hates so much is undoubtedly a man favored by the people above his principal. Appearing to crave for sympathy , this writer is relatively known as a man whose political career and livelihood is linked to politicians that fuel their machinery by sponsoring write-ups of this kind spewing vitriolic brickbats.

Mayas is very, very economical with the truth. He knows fully well that in the over eigthy or so days that Ahmadu Fintiri was Acting Governor ,he set the pace of the future development of the state as it is today.

When the history of Adamawa will be written, truthful historians will remember Fintiri’s two months in office ,within which corner shops beautified the streets of Yola,Raycon constructed several roads within Jimeta and Yola .He laid a solid foundation within a short span that nobody could ignore.

Fintiri at the same time gained prominence over Nyako when he paid workers their outstanding salaries of two months that the governor showed no sign of paying and workers groaned at that time. The ATMs were buzzing for hours due to ” triple alerts at once” such that the confidence and morale of the populace picked up. What was Mayas doing at that time. He cannot give a single idea he contributed to the growth of the state despite collecting huge remuneration as a political appointee. All they did was pillage the treasury of the poor state and sing praises to probably the first ” friends” of the government in the state.

It is a pity that as the APC led Government under Bindow was leaving office in 2019, they could impose their friends on the state ,thanks to Fintiri’s foresight of excluding fifth columnist in his government.

It is most unfortunate that Mayas’ intention is to defame Fintiri on flimsy grounds initiated by his principals who wants Fintiri out of their way by hook or crook. His claim that Fintiri is under EFCC scrutiny does not mean he is guilty. Several politicians have been so accused because they belong to the opposition. This brings to mind the blackmail method by Oshiomole that said, if one joins APC his sins will be forgiven . Can Mayas say that all previous Adamawa governors are beyond reproach? Far from that. Is Mayas not surprised that in spite of the Federal might behind APC then with a sitting Governor, Fintiri defeated them at the polls. This only proves one thing , that APC has been found wanting and was therefore booted out of office by the popular votes of the people .

Having lost his job as a member of one of the boards in the state ,his attempt to rubbish the government by joining the lamenting of the unfortunately duped youths in the wee days of Bindow’s government is dubious because he knows that an attempt was made to over-bloat the civil service so as to make resources unmanageable and the state ungovernable. Even in his wildest imagination ,how does Mayas expect the government to cope? Why should he support such a wicked and malicious plot to sabotage the incoming government? Mayas is only playing to the gallery so as to achieve their goal of distabilising. Fintiri from the outset. It really hurts them that Fintiri weathered the storm by cooling tempers and introducing a practicable solution.

Mayas,a politician of the educated class knows more than what is in his article. Can Mayas truly blame the present government for the problems in the education sector? On the other hand, is he oblivious of the fact that his party the APC while in power handed out plots of land sequestrated from schools, including one from a girls school to build a hostel? Is he not aware of the fact that a free feeding scheme was implemented in the state? Is he unaware of the fact that latest statistics show a marked improvement in all nationally conducted examinations? He said “Up to the time of writing” his piece, payment was yet made for NECO examinations. Well I am telling him that payment has been made and those who sat have since browsed their results with a high percentage of pass. If he is unhappy with these , he will have to live with them as this government will do even more. He can contribute more by adding value to this people oriented government with open hands towards positive criticisms. Adamawa cannot prosper if we don’t really find goals that can ensure our collective progress. As citizens we should go beyond our personal wellbeing and move on to ideas that can be of benefit to our people now, our children in future and our names in posterity.

Mayas, Oh Mayas,I plead that we move forward together as citizens of this great state and country ,to forge an alliance that will make Adamawa the ” Miracle of NIgeria.,,” Which is the hallmark of the Fintirii led administration!!
