Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria will formally declare his intention to contest the Presidency of Nigeria in the 2023 general election today, 23 March 2022.
Th Waziri Adamawa is slated to declare his intention at the International Conference Centre at 11:00am today. This would make it the fifth time that he will be contesting the number seat in the nation. Out of the five times, Abubakar contested the presidency as a candidate of a political party two times, 2007 as the candidate of AC and 2019 as the candidate of the PDP.
He started his public service career as an Officer of Nigeria Customs and Exercise Department and Rose to the rank of Deputy Director. In 20 years career with the Department, he received several professional training opportunities in Leadership, Management and Drug Enforcement in Egypt, the United States of America, and Finland.
Atiku Abubakar is referred as Philanthropist because of his great assistance within and outside of the country. He said to be the second highest employer of labour in home state of Adamawa.
His noticeable presence in the labour market of the state are in his companies and organizations, namely: American University of Nigeria (AUN), Faro Bottling Company, Gotel Radio/TV stations and Gado Riko.
He has different companies across the country which helps tremendously in reducing the high unemployment within and outside the country.
Atiku Abubakar was sworn in as Vice President of Nigeria on 29 May 1999 alongside Olusegun Obasanjo as President. His first term was mainly characterized by his role as Chairman of the National Economic Council and head of the National Council on Privatization, overseeing the sale of hundreds of loss-making and poorly managed public enterprises alongside Nasir El Rufai.
Abubakar was born in Jada, Adamawa State, Nigeria, on November 25, 1946. He star ted his education at Jada Primary School 1954-1960. Adamawa Provinsional School, Yola. 1961-19653 and Ahmadu Bello University, 1967-1969.
