The intrigues leading to to the debacle in the Adamawa state governorship election is gradually being exposed as the Constitution of Nigeria is flouted and the self-centered interest of a criminal few attempts to change the outcome of the elections in the state.
It is increasingl evident that what happened was the product of a plot criminally conceived in Gombe,the Gombe state capital with the connivance of Aishatu Binani,the governorship candidate of the APC in Adamawa and APC governors from five northern states. The plot was to steal the people’s mandate from Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in favor of the APC candidate. The plot , criminally conceived plan wrest power from Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, increase the number of APC states and impose a chauvinistic tribalist agenda by ” hook or by crook”.
Unlike similar plots in Ogun and Kaduna states the resolve and overwhelming support if Adamawa voters stalled the grandiose plot.
Having hatched the plot, the services of INEC staff through cash gifts and other promises were made to buy them over. With many INEC staff compromised,the next stage was to compromise the security apparatus; soldiers that have no investigative functions invaded the PDP Situation Room under the supervision of the APC candidate purportedly in search of electoral materials. The operation is especially unique given that while the police was waiting for a warrant ,the army came with instructions from unknown sources to effect a search. How this can happen in a democracy is baffling. Added to that is the fact that AIshatu Binani, the APC candidate was at hand to ensure that the task of embarrassing residents of the house was carried out. The shock of the intrusion caused so much trauma to the psyche of one of the occupants who made a call to his brother,our common friend saying suspected hoodlums and party thugs want to break in. He said,he became relieved only when after the search the police officer in charge dispersed the group of thugs in the vicinity.
What happened sequel to the fact he election has placed a dent on the neutrality of some security operatives and INEC staff thereby casting doubts on how the the reruns in forty- two units will be conducted. The presence of political thugs alongside soldiers that have no business searching private residencies is a pointer to the fact that even more devious and dubious means may be employed by this gang of desperate politicians hell-,bent on winning” by hook or by crook”. To prevent the success of their dubious plot,the local populace must ensure that the margin of victory is widened. Close observation of the procedure from start to finish should be observed. Thank God ,the units are not so many and can be easily and effectively monitored. With handset in abundance , unwholesome acts can be documented. At this stage,the mass media have the responsibility of protecting the people’s mandate.
Now that the nefarious plans of the criminally inclined politicians have been exposed,all and sundry should embark on this holy war to rid our state and country off criminals that have created slaughter slabs in their states in their bid to hold on to power. We,in Adamawa must ensure that their machinations fail. Our peace- loving people should not allow vain adventurers the privilege of muddling our lives with their evil plots. We must resist them and make them show their tails.
