It is refreshing to to note that in the midst of harrowing corruption and dishonest partisanship there are still people of integrity that can stand up for the truth.
The recent pronouncement on the Adamawa state gubernatorial elections by Sadiq Dasin ,a former Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, a former member house of Reps and an APC stalwart is a diversion from the past.
Coming from the opposition APC,his honest assessment of the situation surrounding the governorship elections and it’s attendant problems to being declared “inconclusive” is a classic case on the way people try by all means to rig elections,steal the people’s mandate and occupy office through ethically obnoxious means.
Sadiq Dasin’s narrative of what happened at the Fufore collation center speaks volumes. First and foremost is the fact that the narrative is full of plain and truthful facts surrounding what took place at the center.
For the first time names were mentioned and his personal relationship with the dramatis personae explained so as to enable as all doubts about the people involved. Thanks to Dasin we now know the people directly involved in the Fufore misadventure that almost robbed Adamawa citizens off their right to choose who should government them in the next four years.
In graphic details we know that no one was forced into changing the genuine outcome of the voting. We also know the people responsible for the snatching of the genuine outcome of the election,with names of the principal characters the drama that played out there in Fufore.
We know for sure that one Sali Bluna together with Baba Chinchin and Bebeto were at the center and were responsible for snatching the EC8C form containin the genuine result of the election giving APC a four thousand vote lead.
However,knowing that the lead is insufficient to give their candidate,Aishtu Binani her much coveted victory,a primitive approach of grabbing the result sheet was employed in full public glare.
Sadiq’s heroic stance of standing up to tell the truth is worthy of emulation. His action must be seen in the true light of the fact that it is a diversion from the past of blind party loyalty in total disregard to our acclaimed national goals of true democracy and patriotism.
By coming out to prove the falsehood of some of the APC’s bad eggs,he must have created enemies within its rank and file,but his action must be counted as the new of his finest hours of Adamawa politics. It is an instance where where an individual rose to the challenge of protecting democracy without regards to party affiliation. It is one of the finest hours of democracy in Nigeria.
However, one important thing that is baffling to many is that having made the courageous move of narrating things the way they are,our security agencies appear to be too slow in taking steps that will discourage future criminals that might want to tinker with our patrimony and common wealth. The agencies should be seen to be doing the needful by apprehending the hoodlums and their sponsors. The kind of help that this crop of people need are lawyers to stand for them in court,and not electoral officers to rig elections.
The fact that the APC kept an unusual mum goes a long way to prove how they lack the courage to either own up to their lies or at least counter Dasin’s far reaching revelations. This is a clear testament to the fact that SADIQ SASIN SPOKE NOTHING BUT THE TRUTH.
All well-meaning citizens of Adamawa should join Sadiq in his proven path of honor. We stand by his course of upholding Democratic values and his plea to others to come forward and tell the truth about what transpired in the aftermath of the gubernatorial elections so as to discourage such re-occurance whereby a gang of misguided criminals ,through brazen drug induced bravado will attempt to hijack elections and gift it to undeserving pretenders.
